Deer seasons side by side | Multi-state trip checker (New England)
Why this exists: problems people run into
- Hunter-education classes fill up, and people ask whether another state's course counts.
A Massachusetts poster in r/Hunting reported field-day classes were full; replies said Massachusetts accepts hunter education from any U.S. state, and one Connecticut commenter described checking for months for an open class. Source: Reddit r/Hunting thread (community posts, not official). - There is no single New England freshwater license, so multi-state trips need one license per state.
A r/flyfishing poster planning VT, NH and MA fishing asked if one license covers all; replies said each state is separate, with 1-, 3- and 7-day options and limited saltwater reciprocity. Source: Reddit r/flyfishing thread, 2023 (community posts, not official). - Sunday hunting rules differ state to state and sometimes by land type.
Maine and Massachusetts close Sundays; Connecticut allows Sunday hunting on private land only (not on state or public land, and not for migratory birds), per CT DEEP. A third-party tracker says no two states handle Sundays the same way. Source: HuntDates (third-party, not official). - Deer seasons are split by zone/unit, with changing any-deer vs. antlered-only days.
NH's firearms deer season has a different any-deer window in each Wildlife Management Unit; RI and CT split by zone and by state vs. private land. Source: NH Fish and Game (official). - License rules have traps: NH hunting licenses must be printed and signed, first-time hunters cannot buy online, MA tagged hunts need paper copies.
Each is stated on the official pages cited on the state pages. Source: NH Fish and Game (official). - Information is scattered across six agencies, PDFs and apps (Maine has an app, Vermont has a waterbody map tool, NH is on a separate license portal).
State pages for ME and VT describe their own tools; there is no shared index. Source: Maine IFW (official).
What this guide does not do
It lists resident fees only for some states (see each state page; fees change, and every fee links to the official page). It does not replace the official regulation books or cover every season. We do not collect personal information and do not sell licenses.
